Q.WHERE DO I GO--that is, what book do I
buy, what website do I check, and so on, for a long list of IDEAS
on unique weddings? I don't want to jump out of a plane and yell
'I do' in mid-air, but I need some ideas.
We've just gotten engaged after 12 years and I am not going to
buy a dress, make an invitation list, etc. We want something very
SMALL (we might invite immediate family).
Where do I find unique ideas for making it legal AND memorable?
Please help!
A1.If you want something truly personal,
check out the website of the British Humanist Association - www.humanism.org.uk
While a humanist ceremony has no legal standing (you'd need to
go to a registry office to complete the formalities) it's the
most adaptable of all ceremonies.
There are no restrictions on word or venues - you can say whatever
you like wherever you like and at whatever time you like. Even
civil ceremonies are subject to 'laws' regarding music and words
so a humanist ceremony is the perfect way to have your kind of
celebration.
If you want details of all the venues licensed for
civil ceremonies (and there are some fantastic ones!), have a
look at 'Nobles Guide'
in the net-weddings book store. You could find somewhere perfect
for you and still personalise the day in other ways.
Whatever you decide - good luck and I hope your
get the day you want.

A2. There are hundreds of options
open to you. You want to make your day memorable, your day will
be, no matter how you choose to get married.
Can I ask you the reason why you do not want "a
dress and invitations", I am getting the impression that
it is because you have been together for 12yrs and that for some
reason you feel you shouldn't have a dress etc. If you want a
small traditional wedding go for it!
Do you want a romantic wedding, a fun wedding,
an exotic wedding or an adrenalin pumping wedding? You could get
married abroad, the Caribbean for example, barefoot on the beach.
First I want you to really have a think what does Sheri want?
This is your big day one of the most important days in your life
- make it special to you.
